Italian start-up airline Aeroitalia has agreed a partnership with travel technology firm WorldTicket to increase its distribution through travel agents and boost its expansion plans in Europe.
Aeroitalia, which is operating services from its hub at Milan Bergamo airport alongside a new base in Florence, said the deal with WorldTicket would give it access to more than 100 IATA global agencies.
Krassimir Tanev, chief commercial officer of Aeroitalia, said: “Aeroitalia is committed to delivering outstanding service to passengers which incorporate easy access for our product, especially for our business customers.
“Multi-channel distribution is an important development as it goes hand-in-hand with our network expansion plans for summer 2023. Thanks to our marketing partnership with WorldTicket and its global distribution technology, Aeroitalia services are now closer to the travel agency community to the benefit of our customers.”
Aeroitalia is targeting markets that are “unserved and underserved” by existing European budget carriers. Current routes include a Milan-Rome domestic service flying six days per week, as well as the route between Milan and London Heathrow.
“The implementation of WorldTicket’s solutions makes it possible for Aeroitalia to launch operations in these markets quickly and cost-efficiently,” added the airline in a statement.
Aeroitalia stressed that working with WorldTickets meant it could “add new distribution faster” than going through its own direct connection to a GDS (global distribution system).
The airline, which operated its first flights in summer 2022, expects to carry more than one million passengers during 2023 using its growing fleet of Boeing 737-800s.
