TRAVELODGE is to spend more than £60 million on another 10 new hotels. The biggest newcomer will be a £9.9m, 200-room development at Manchester's MEN Arena. Another development in Manchester, three in London, and one each in Andover, Bristol, Camberley, Cannock and Liverpool add up to 1,133 rooms.
Paul Harvey, Travelodge's managing director for development, said: "During the recession we have taken the opportunity to grow where many have put their development on hold. In 2009 we secured more hotels than in any other year in our history and have been able to obtain superior sites due to lower property prices."
In January, Travelodge announced its intention to open 26 new hotels this year - an average of one a fortnight - as part of its ambition to expand from 390 properties to 1,000 by 2020.
