Swiss has unveiled further details of its new
premium economy offering as it opens bookings for travel in the new class.
The fourth cabin will be installed on the
first of its long-haul Boeing
777-300ERs by the end of the year with all 12 of the fleet to be fitted out by April
2022.
The class will feature 24
seats made by manufacturer Zim. The seat has a 99-centimetre seat pitch compared with 78.7 in economy and is between 46 and 48 centimetres wide compared with 43.4 in economy. The seat reclines but is integrated into a fixed
backshell so that it does not intrude into the space of the passenger behind. Each
seat has a 15.6-inch screen and an in-built USB-A socket.
Premium economy
travellers will be served an elderberry welcome drink and will be able to
choose from three hot meals all served on china tableware. The selection here
will include a dish from the Swiss Taste of Switzerland’ inflight culinary
programme, together with a vegetarian option supplied by Hiltl, the world’s
oldest vegetarian restaurant.
Passengers will receive a
complimentary amenity kit that is manufactured using sustainable
materials.
Premium economy customers
will get double the 23kg baggage allowance of economy passengers and enjoy priority
boarding. Passengers
can also get reduced cost access to the Swiss business lounges at Zurich and
Geneva airports and the Swiss arrival lounge at Zurich Airport.
The one-way fare for the
new class will be around CHF 250 to 350 (£200 to £235) higher than its economy
equivalent.
The new class may also be
introduced sooner than April on some routes.
