EasyJet’s chief operating officer Peter Bellew has resigned after the airline struggled with last-minute cancellations and major schedule changes this summer.
Bellew, who had been in the post for two-and-a-half years, resigned with effect from Friday (1 July) to “pursue other business opportunities”. David Morgan has been appointed to lead operations as interim COO, reporting directly to easyJet’s CEO Johan Lundgren.
Morgan has been with easyJet since 2016 and previously spent almost one year as interim COO in 2019 when he also oversaw operations.
Lundgren added: “Everyone at easyJet remains absolutely focused on delivering a safe and reliable operation this summer.
“I am pleased that operations will be in the very capable hands of David Morgan who can move seamlessly into this role having previously led the operation, as interim chief operating officer, throughout 2019.
“David has significant experience and deep knowledge of the business and operation and will provide strong leadership for the airline this summer.”
The airline said it had “taken pre-emptive action to build further resilience for the summer”. EasyJet stressed that it was operating up to 1,700 daily flights, despite having to cut its schedule at key airports such as London Gatwick and Amsterdam Schiphol.
