Starwood has announced it will launch its select service brand in the UK, at the ExCel exhibition and conference centre in London's Docklands.
The 252-room hotel will be open in time for the Olympics in 2012, which Excel will play a major part in.
Aloft London ExCel will have a covered walkway direct to ExCel and Prince Regent Station on the Docklands Light Railway.
The hotel will also be served by the planned Crossrail development, for which it must pay a "significant additional tax", said Michael Wale, Starwood's senior VP, northwest Europe.
It will have a pool, bar, a buffet-style 24-hour restaurant and four meeting rooms.
ExCel's parent company, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), is investing in the property.
It is the second time Starwood has teamed up with ADNEC. The Aloft Abu Dhabi, the first under the brand to open in the middle east, is also connected to an ADNEC venture, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Starwood hopes to expand the Aloft brand outside of London in the future, said Wale, into secondary and tertiary cities, as well as other locations in Northern Europe.
The Aloft brand first launched in Canada in 2008 and has since seen almost 50 openings, with more to follow this year. Aloft Brussels is due to open on September 1.
