Despite Latin America being the only region to record a profit in the past two years, Giovanni Bisignani has called for improved infrastructure in the region.
The CEO of the International Air Transprort Association (IATA) said Brazil is Latin America’s fastest growing aviation market, but its aviation infrastructure is failing to keep pace with demand.
Speaking at the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association Leadership Forum in Panama City, Bisignani said 13 airports in Brazil don’t have terminals to meet today’s demand including Sao Paulo Guaralhos, the region’s largest hub.
“I don’t see much progress,” he said, “and the clock is ticking.”
Sao Paulo is the gateway city for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics.
“To avert a national embaressment we must get all the stakeholders to the table and finalize a plan,” said Bisignani.
