American Express Global Business Travel has appointed Michael Esquibel as chief technology officer, leading the travel management company's technology and AI strategies, the company announced.
Esquibel has been with Amex GBT for eight years, most recently as SVP of technology and platform engineering.
In the role, Esquibel will work to embed AI across the company, strengthen data infrastructure and develop AI tools for both operational efficiency at the TMC and the travel experience, Amex GBT said. In addition, he will oversee client onboarding, technology integration and the TMC's platforms for sales, servicing and mid- and back-office.
Amex GBT's previous chief information and technology officer, David Thompson, left the company in May.
Prior to joining the TMC, Esquibel was VP and chief of staff for global operations and technology at Western Union, and he also has worked in corporate finance leadership positions at Fiserv and Verizon Business.
