Travel technology giant Travelport has become the latest company to join the Travalyst sustainable travel coalition.
Travelport said it would implement Travalyst’s methodology for emissions reporting, as well as providing tools within its Travelport+ booking platform to allow TMCs and travel agencies to sell the “most eco-friendly offers and report on sustainability”.
Travalyst was set up by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and its members already include fellow travel tech firm Amadeus, alongside Booking.com, Expedia Group, search giant Google and payments specialist Visa among others.
The coalition is developing a framework of shared principles and preferred methodology for reporting sustainability, with an initial focus on aviation and accommodation.
Sally Davey, CEO of Travalyst, said: “Travelport will bring invaluable knowledge and expertise in helping us drive mass adoption of sustainability standards with its integral role connecting agencies and suppliers.
“Our shared commitment to industry-wide collaboration and simplifying how information about sustainable offers is shared and reported will be a tremendous asset to the travel agency community.”
Travelport also recently joined the GBTA’s sustainability programme as a founding partner on the sustainability leadership council to support the corporate travel sector.
Tom Kershaw, chief product and technology officer at Travelport, said: “It is incredibly important for us to take action and collaborate as an industry on unifying and scaling the way we report on sustainability standards, so everyone can become informed and make sustainable travel more feasible for corporates, agents and travellers.”
He added that Travelport+ could help travel retailers such as TMCs to “determine the best eco-friendly travel itineraries”.
