Brussels Airlines has appointed Lorenza Maggio as its new CEO, pending approval by the board of directors of Belgian parent SN Airholding, a holding company within the Lufthansa Group.
In addition to becoming the carrier’s chief executive, Maggio will also serve as executive board representative to the European Commission. She succeeds Dorothea von Boxberg, who will leave the airline “at her own request” on 31 August 2026 after three years in the top job.
Maggio is currently chief strategy and integration officer at ITA Airways, in which Lufthansa Group acquired a minority stake in 2025 and plans to increase its holding to 90 per cent. Her move from Rome to Brussels will be “determined shortly”, according to a Lufthansa Group statement.
Maggio previously served as vice president and head of EMEA sales for Lufthansa Group, and as vice president of product, customer experience and marketing at Eurowings.
Commenting on the appointment, Dieter Vranckx, SN Airholding board chairman and Lufthansa Group chief commercial officer, said: “Lorenza Maggio is a highly accomplished and internationally experienced airline executive. She knows the industry and our group from various leadership positions at different companies.
“With her proven expertise, she will lead Brussels Airlines as an integrated hub airline within the Lufthansa Group.”
In a separate update on Wednesday (15 July) the Lufthansa Group also announced impending changes to its loyalty programme Miles & More, with a relaunch planned for the end of the year.
The programme will be renamed ‘Lufthansa Group Miles & More’ and “will undergo further development to become a unifying loyalty system for the entire group”, the company said.
“The repositioning of Lufthansa Group Miles & More demonstrates our group’s cohesion while preserving the strengths and identities of our brands. This creates a consistent and compelling brand experience for our customers, partners and employees across all touchpoints,” Vranckx said.
