Rail and air passengers across the UK are continuing to face disruption after record-breaking temperatures impacted services on Thursday.
A problem with the UK's air traffic control system is causing severe delays and cancellations at Heathrow and Gatwick airports. NATS, which runs air traffic control in the country, is currently attempting to solve the issue.
Thameslink and East Midlands Trains are among the worst affected by sagging overhead cables that were damaged in yesterday’s heat. Despite Network Rail working to fix the problems, passengers on some routes are being advised not to travel today.
An emergency timetable is in place on the East Midlands Trains London St Pancras/Nottingham/Sheffield route, while Thameslink, which operates on part of the same route, has only half of its lines available this morning. Great Northern says it is operating a severely reduced service, particularly on lines into and out of Peterborough.
Meanwhile, Greater Anglia warned Stansted Express services will be disrupted and Eurostar trains are experiencing delays of up to 60 minutes on the Brussels route.
The heat wave and storms are also being blamed for air travel delays across Europe, with passengers advised to check the status of their flight with their airline.
