Train services to London Heathrow airport face “considerable disruption” for a second day due to damage to overhead electric cables.
Services to the airport on Heathrow Express and the Elizabeth Line could not operate on Monday (19 September) because of the damage to the cables in west London. Great Western rail services between Paddington station and Reading were also cancelled due to the incident.
Network Rail said that while services on Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line and Great Western had finally resumed on Tuesday morning (20 September), there would still be disruption to journeys and it strongly advised passengers only to travel “if necessary” as frequencies to Heathrow have been reduced temporarily.
“Network Rail engineers worked throughout the night and into this morning to repair the damaged overhead power cables,” said the organisation in a statement. “Overnight, more extensive damage was found meaning that two of the four railway lines into Paddington will not reopen to electric power today.”
Engineers are due to undertake further work overnight which means that services to and from Paddington will finish before 10pm on Tuesday.
