Ride-hailing app Free Now has pledged to offer an all-electric fleet of taxis by 2024, with all private hire vehicles to be similarly powered by 2025.
Across Europe, the company has additionally set a goal of making all trips zero-emissions by 2030 and in the meantime will offset all emissions through a range of projects.
Free Now, which merged with Kapten last year to bring black cabs and private hire vehicles together in one app, already has the largest electric fleet in Europe and more than half of its taxi trips in London are already completed in electric vehicles.
In November it became the first ride-hailing app provider to enable businesses to restrict employees to the use of only electric vehicles.
Mariusz Zabrocki, UK general manager at Free Now, said: “More journeys are being made in zero-emission-capable vehicles, and with the [UK] government’s recent ban on new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, this is only going to increase.
“We are proud to be the only app to offer electric vehicle (EV) booking options, both for PHV and black cabs, to enable passengers to choose more environmentally-friendly vehicles whenever they travel."
