Wizz Air said it has cancelled flights to and from Ukraine and Moldova in an update on the conflict in the region.
The carrier said the move was in response to the closure of airspace of the countries as well as Russian airspace.
The airline also said it has an evacuation plan for its three aircraft in Ukraine and is “ready to bring its assets out of the country when it is safe to do so.”
József Váradi, chief executive, Wizz Air, said: "In this very concerning situation we have been focused on helping our colleagues and their families in Ukraine, to move to places of safety. I am incredibly proud of how our people have stepped up and worked around the clock to try to provide the best support at this difficult time. At the same time we continue to work to bring everyone to safety and to provide support where needed.
"We will offer already evacuated colleagues continued support and the choice to get employment elsewhere in the network, should they wish to. We continue to work through the operational challenges arising from the crisis in Ukraine and we are redistributing capacity to routes and bases where we can drive demand.”
The carrier also announced a 285 per cent increase to 1.9 million passengers in February compared to the same month in 2021. The airline carried more than three million passengers in February 2020.
A further highlight for the month was the addition of new destinations for its subsidiary Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. The low-cost carrier will fly to Amman and Aqaba from the end of April.
