US REGULATORS have discussed ways of easing restrictions on overseas investment in US airlines, a long-time sticking point in transatlantic aviation talks. Reports say the Transportation Department is looking into arrangements which could help its beleaguered carriers, many of which are losing money or in bankruptcy protection. However, plans by the likes of Virgin Atlantic to launch its own domestic US carrier still appear to be some way off as there is no proposal to change the law which restricts foreign investment to 25%. The next round of bilateral talks is scheduled for November 14 in Washington.
