Switzerland’s Federal Council on Wednesday agreed the latest step of its reopening from lockdown with a decision to allow those who have been vaccinated, as well as people who have recovered from Covid, to be exempt from contact and travel quarantine.
“It can be assumed that they cannot transmit the disease. A decision will be taken on the vaccines to which these exemptions apply and for how long,” the government said.
The new rules come into force on 31 May when all those at especially high risk who wish to be vaccinated are expected to have received their jabs.
Currently arrivals from certain countries and those who have come into contact with someone with Covid have to quarantine for ten days.
Travellers from high risk countries where variants of concern are still circulating will still have to enter quarantine except in a very limited number of circumstances.
Business travellers on essential trips that cannot be postponed have been exempt from quarantine since October.
From the same date, the limit on the number of people who can attend indoor events will increase from 50 to 100, subject to a limit of half of the venue’s capacity, up from a third previously.
