Singapore Airlines is to restart services
from Manchester to Singapore on 17 July, the carrier has announced.
The service will initially operate
three times weekly to and from Singapore, which is on the UK government’s
green list, using an A350-900 aircraft.
Services will depart Manchester
on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1100, arriving in Singapore at 0700 the
following day. The return services will leave Singapore on Wednesdays, Fridays
and Sundays at 0145, arriving in Manchester at 0830.
The airline says it hopes to increase
the level of service in time and also to re-establish the westbound
transatlantic connection to Houston, which started in 2016.
Mohamed Rafi Mar, general manager, UK
and Ireland, said: “Manchester and the northwest region have been a key part of
our route network for over 30 years, so while it was never our intention to
have an enforced break in service as has happened due to the unprecedented
Covid-19 pandemic, we are delighted to be able to make our return.”
The airline, which recently
celebrated the 50th anniversary of flights between the Singapore and
the UK, is currently operating up to three flights a day from London Heathrow to Singapore using A350-900s and Boeing
777-300ERs.
