SAS and Canadian airline WestJet have formed an interline agreement ahead of plans to launch a “full” codeshare deal later this summer, the carriers said on Thursday (12 June).
The interline agreement will allow travellers to book combined itineraries across the two carriers from 26 June with a single check-in and through-checked baggage.
WestJet customers will be able to book travel to 29 destinations across Denmark, Sweden and Norway, while SAS travellers will gain access to the Canadian carrier’s domestic network, including flights to Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa and Winnipeg.
SAS chief commercial officer Paul Verhagen said: “This partnership lays the foundation for a long-term collaboration that will benefit travellers on both sides of the Atlantic… and with our planned codeshare, even more seamless options are just around the corner.”
The Scandinavian carrier currently operates a direct Copenhagen-Toronto service, which will be rolled into the codeshare agreement, along with SAS-operated flights to London, Paris and Amsterdam, the carriers said. However, further details regarding the launch of the agreement were not provided.
WestJet also recently extended existing codeshare agreements with Virgin Atlantic and Air France-KLM.
