Lufthansa has launched a new paid-for catering
concept for economy passengers on its cross-border European flights with durations
longer than 60 minutes.
Lufthansa passengers previously had food and drinks included in their fare. Rival British Airways ended free food in economy in 2017. Air France-KLM continues to offer free snacks on short-haul economy services.
Meals on offer as part of Lufthansa's Onboard Delights concept include a falafel tahini salad, crunchy chicken bowl, Bircher muesli or apple crumble cake made to recipes by Munich-based dean&david, which has a commitment to the responsible use of food and against packaging waste. The airline is using environmentally-friendly packaging materials, such as PaperWise, made from agricultural waste material and produced using 100 percent renewable energy, for the new concept.
Prices range from €5.50 for meals, €3
for coffee and tea, €3.50 for soft drinks (500 ml) or beer (330 ml) and €2 for small snacks.
The selection of fresh products will be updated every three
months.
