London City airport has seen a “clear resilience” in business travel after passenger numbers in October exceeded traffic levels in the peak summer month of August.
The airport, located on the eastern side of the UK capital, said it catered for 300,000 passengers in October, which was double the traffic seen in October 2021.
The improved figures came as British Airways CityFlyer launched a new daily route from the airport to the oil and gas gateway of Aberdeen. The service will operate until 22 January 2023 using Embraer E190 aircraft.
Anne Doyere, London City’s aviation director, said: “With six routes across the country, we offer the best, most comprehensive service between London and Scotland.”
“This news comes after our bumper summer, where we saw nearly five times more passengers this summer than the same period last year. October passenger numbers are also higher than August, demonstrating a clear resilience in the business travel market.”
The airport served 23 destinations in October, with the top five routes being Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Zurich, Frankfurt and Dublin.
