ITA Airways has posted its first-ever positive earnings result after reporting profits of €209 million for the 2025 financial year.
ITA – which launched in 2021 after long-time flag carrier Alitalia shuttered operations, and is now part of the Lufthansa Group – reported revenues of €3.2 billion, including €2.8 billion in passenger revenues. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) came in at €404 million.
The positive result was attributed to early stage synergies achieved through ITA's ongoing integration with the Lufthansa Group, which commenced last February. This integration process hit a milestone on 1 April with ITA Airways joining Lufthansa's Miles & More loyalty programme as well as Star Alliance.
ITA Airways operated 11 per cent fewer flights in 2025 than the previous year, while passenger numbers also fell 8 per cent year-on-year to 16.2 million passengers. Load factor, however, increased 2.1 percentage points to 83.4 per cent.
The carrier added 10 new aircraft to its fleet in 2025, with the simultaneous withdrawal of three older-generation aircraft. It reported a total fleet 106 aircraft at the end 2025 (24 wide-body and 82 narrow-body), 70 per cent of which were new-generation aircraft. With continued fleet modernisation and expansion planned, ITA warned its operating result is “not yet fully sustainable”, but that it will “continue to work on this to achieve a stable profitability”.
ITA Airways CEO and general manager Joerg Eberhart added: “We know that to achieve fully sustainable profitability, we must reduce the burden of fleet leasing costs; we are already working resolutely on this.”
