Finnair is planning to fly to 77 destinations next winter including direct flights to the US and Thailand from both Helsinki and Stockholm.
The carrier said it had to put together its winter 2022-23 schedule with a “view to the Russian airspace closure”, which has been in place since the start of the war in Ukraine and affects some of its routes to Asia.
Finnair’s winter schedule will include 10 Asian destinations, plus five cities in the US and 62 European routes, but some services to Japan will remain suspended.
Ole Orver, chief commercial officer at Finnair, said: “We are happy to see travel recovering at a rapid pace, and our winter network caters to the needs of both corporate and leisure travellers.”
Finnair will fly from its Helsinki hub to New York JFK, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas Fort Worth and Chicago. There will also be services from Stockholm Arlanda to New York JFK, Los Angeles and Miami.
The carrier said that its new premium economy cabin would be available on all departures to New York from both Helsinki and Stockholm.
Asian destinations will include daily services to Delhi, Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo Narita, as well as routes to Mumbai, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Finnair will also fly to Bangkok from both Helsinki and Stockholm.
But flights to Tokyo Haneda, Nagoya, Osaka and Sapporo in Japan will remain suspended over the winter due to the closure of Russian airspace.
Russia stopped EU carriers from using its airspace in February in retaliation to the EU banning Russian airlines following the invasion of Ukraine.
On its short-haul network, Finnair will offer at least double-daily frequencies to most European capitals.
