British Airways is to change the food offering in its economy Euro Traveller cabin, replacing food from retailer M&S with a new Speedbird Café menu, which has been developed in partnership with Michelin-starred British chef, Tom Kerridge.
The new menu will be offered from 20 January and will be available to pre-order.
The airline said, “By moving to a pre-order proposition, this will help ensure customers receive their first choice as well as reduce food and packaging waste, one of our sustainability commitments. The menu will not be available to purchase on board.”
The menu includes an afternoon tea box with scone and clotted cream, steak and ale pies and sandwiches and wraps including a vegan spiced cauliflower and chickpea wrap.
The chef tweeted, “I’m truly happy to be working with British Airways again to design a selection of sandwiches and pies that focus on British provenance, soon to be served on the airline’s short-haul economy flights.”
BA introduced M&S food in its short-haul and domestic cabins in early 2017, replacing the complimentary snacks that were previously on offer.
The airline offered fresh M&S sandwiches, snacks such as wasabi peas and hand-cuts as well as popular M&S confectionery including Swiss milk chocolate mountain bars and the retailer’s famous ‘Percy Pigs’.
BA will continue to offer limited complimentary refreshments in Euro Traveller on all flights comprising a bottle of water and a snack, such as a breakfast bar or crisps.
Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ director of brand and customer experience, said: “Over the last few months we know that our customers have valued the complimentary refreshments offered, so they’re here to stay. But in addition, we also wanted to offer more choice and the ability to buy something more substantial. After a successful partnership with M&S, we have teamed up with another British favourite, chef Tom Kerridge."
