Amadeus signs up more hotels
IT and distribution company Amadeus signed up a further 1,600 hotels in the second quarter of 2005 as part of it drive to deliver increased hotel content to agents.
More than 25% of the new properties are independent and were delivered by Amadeus's OTEDIS system which it acquired when it bought Optims.
The locations of the new hotels range across Europe, South America and Africa.
Malev names best bidder
Russian airline KrasAir working with an investment company called Airbridge have been named as the best bidder for Malev, the Hungarian national carrier.
APV, Hungary's state privatisation agency said there were two potential buyers still in the race but a third, Transatlantic Aviation had dropped out.
The agency said it was now extending the deadline for a decision by another month in the long running saga to sell the loss making carrier.
Rein joins Worldspan as vp for e-commerce
Jay Rein has joined Worldspan, one of the world's leading GDSs as its vp for e-commerce.
He will be responsible for worldwide sales and marketing for the company's consumer e-travel business.
Mr Rein previously worked for numerous companies in the travel industry including Sabre.
LOT prepares IPO
Polish airline is aiming for an initial public offering (IPO) and public listing by the middle of next year, its chief executive Marek Grabarek said.
The airline is state-owned but a 25% stake was sold to Swissair before it went bankrupt in 2001.
This is now owned by a syndicate that controls Swissair's assets.
Mr Grabarek said these shares would now be sold but the Polish government would retain a controlling interest.
VLM appoints Nye as UK manager
Dutch short haul carrier has appointed David Bye as its new UK regional manager. He takes over from Titus Johnson who has joined Sabre.
Mr Nye, who will be based at London City airport where VLM is the largest carrier, has ten years experience in the aviation industry and has worked for Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways and, most recently, Air France
