InterContinental Hotels today (April 2) said it had confirmed the planned development of 31 new hotels in India.
The programme will add 7,600 new rooms to IHG's portfolio on the sub-continent.
IHG said the development would concentrate on three of its brands, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn and cover both major and secondary cities.
The development will quadruple the 11 hotels IHG already has in the country.
IHG said India had "huge potential" and said locations for the new hotels will include New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
The company said some of its partners in the project were the Amrapali Group, Riverbank Developers, Today Group, Emaar MGF, Kuwait Based KGA Group, L&T Arun Excello Commercial Projects Ltd and the Brigade Group.
Tony South, IHG's chief development officer for Asia Pacific, said: "We have committed sizeable resources to focus on India.
"These include a team of over 30 hotel support professionals locally based in our Gurgaon corporate office and a dedicated Design and Engineering team to support owners and their consultants - ensuring developments are cost efficient and meeting the needs of the Indian market.
