Mark Johnston joins Edinburgh Airport as CEO from 1 October
Edinburgh Airport has appointed Mark Johnston as chief executive, effective 1 October.
Johnston will join from London Gatwick Airport, where he is chief operating officer. He replaces Gordon Dewar, who is departing after 14 years leading the Scottish airport.
Johnston’s appointment comes as Edinburgh Airport this week unveiled a £500 million investment programme to expand and upgrade facilities over the next five years. The first phase will focus on ‘terminal transformation’ and the airport’s South East Pier expansion, which is expected to be operational next summer.
The investment also includes new gates to support route growth, a larger check-in hall and departure lounge, new international arrivals and baggage reclaim facilities and upgraded food and retail areas, according to the airport.
Edinburgh Airport currently connects to more than 160 destinations with 39 airlines and welcomed almost 17 million travellers in 2025.

Before joining London Gatwick, Johnston spent more than 15 years at Glasgow Airport, holding several leadership positions including managing director and head of security and terminal operations.
London Gatwick said Johnston’s successor would be announced “in due course”.
