MORE THAN HALF OF UK business travellers say they will be looking for new jobs once the British economy picks up.
The shock figure comes from a global business trends poll for Marriott Hotels and Resorts, which also reveals that 39 per cent of respondents fear they could lose their job in the next 12 months.
The survey examines business travellers' attitudes to economic recovery in the US, UK, Germany and China. Predictably, the Chinese are brimming with confidence. Some 81 per cent of Chinese business travellers believe their economy is on the up, while 63 per cent expect to travel more next year, and 96 per cent are convinced that business travel "is important to achieve business goals".
While only 13 per cent of China's business travellers are concerned about job security, 66 per cent say they will look for new jobs as their national economy improves, compared with 51 per cent in the UK. One-third of German business travellers, and 29 per cent of Americans, are concerned about loss of employment, and roughly four in ten - in both cases - will be scanning job ads.
