TRAIN OPERATOR EAST COAST has launched a new executive travel package in an effort to grab an even larger share of Scotland's London-bound business market. The company, which operates from both Glasgow and Edinburgh to London via northeast England, has cut the cost of First Class and Standard Class tickets.
Published rate for a flexible Edinburgh-London ticket is now £199, compared with the average £253 cost - according to East Coast - of flights. In the last five years, East Coast says it has almost doubled its share of the Edinburgh-London market, from 12 per cent in 2005 to 23 per cent this year. Between Newcastle and London, rail's share of the market has risen from 45 per cent to 66 per cent.
