THE FUTURE OF LIFELINE FLIGHTS between Scotland's Western Isles remained uncertain last month as Flybe franchise carrier Loganair continued negotiations with the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council). Loganair took over the Stornoway-Benbecula route on March 29 following the failure of incumbent airline Highland Airways. However, the carrier's two return flights each weekday were only timetabled to the end of April, pending "discussions" with the local authority.
Highland Airways' board called in administrators from PricewaterhouseCoopers after bad debts and bad weather combined to bring about its collapse, with loss of 100 jobs.
