FCM TRAVEL SOLUTIONS issued a white paper towards the end of May highlighting potential diffi culties facing business travellers during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Simple rules of supply and demand will result in price hikes for air travel, accommodation and trains during July and August, Ciarán Kelly, general manager, FCm Travel Solutions, said. Keeping within policy and budget during the period will require forward planning, he added. Other issues raised were the potential disruptions to travel in and around London.
Currently there are 3.5 million daily journeys made by local residents or visitors on the London Underground network. During the games, London's transport system will have to support an estimated 20m extra trips made by spectators.
FCm also expects that security and visa checks at airports will take more time as extra visitors arrive in the capital.
The Olympic Games takes place between July 27 and August 12, 2012, with the Paralympic Games starting just over a fortnight later.
