Starwood’s extended-stay brand Element is set to open a new hotel in Vancouver.
The new-build 169-room property, which will feature 5,500 sqft of meetings space, is due to open in 2014.
As part of the brand’s green mandate, which means all Element hotels must pursue LEED (leadership in energy and environmental design) certification from the US Green Building Council, the new hotel will offer an electric vehicle charging point.
Other steps the hotel will take to reduce waste include using amenity dispensers in bathrooms rather than mini-bottles, and replacing bottled mineral water with filtered drinking water.
Brian McGuinness, SVP of specialty select brands for Starwood, said: "We like to say Element's inspiring designs flow from nature, so Vancouver's spectacular natural beauty makes a perfect setting for our first Element property in Canada.”
The new hotel could help Vancouver in its bid to become the world’s greenest metropolis by 2020 – “we're very excited for Element Vancouver Metrotown to become part of that movement,” said McGuinness.
The Element brand first launched in 2008. There are now nine Element hotels across North America.
Located near Metropolis at Metrotown, British Columbia’s largest shopping centre, the hotel will be feature the tallest tower in the area, with views of Whistler, the North Shore Mountains and downtown Vancouver.
