US regional carrier Comair is set to see its fleet reduced by more than half over the next 16 months.
The Delta Airlines subsidiary currently operates 97 aircraft. This will be reduced to 44 aircraft by 2012.
A Delta spokesperson said the reduction at Comair will see "the removal of less efficient 50-seat aircraft in its network".
This will "improve the overall efficiency of the fleet and expand the amount of service we offer to domestic customers using the larger, two-class jets they prefer", said Delta.
The 44 aircraft are currently on loan to the airline, and will be returned to the owners once the leases expire.
