Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) has signed agreements with two mobile technology providers, conTgo and WorldMate, allowing clients to access SMS and smartphone travel services.
ConTgo provides real time updates, in a text message format. For example, hotel booking references, security alerts and flight updates can be sent via sms to a traveller's phone.
Travellers can also get instant feedback to specific requests, such as destination-related information.
WorldMate provides similar information to travellers with smartphones, such as Blackberries or iPhones.
The application, which will be launched for Androids later this year, provides travellers with personalised itineraries, synchronized with their calendar, which is updated automatically if flights are delayed or cancelled.
CWT said the agreements with the two suppliers mark the beginning of the travel management company's plans to "increasingly offer its products and services via mobile channels and social networks".
Andrew Winterton, CWT president, suppliers, products and technology, said: "Today, mobile connection is a must for business travellers. They want relevant information concerning their business trip in real time and they expect on- and offline services to be available anytime, anywhere."
Winterton argues that by offering a mobile solution within their travel management portfolio, encourages travellers to stay inside their travel policy.
"Companies that do not offer travellers a managed mobile solution incur higher costs, inadvertently encourage non-compliant decisions, and risk the spread of confidential information through social networks," said Winterton.
"By making our products and services available via mobile channels such as conTgo and WorldMate, we can help our clients offer a preferred solution with the right functionalities for their travellers. This has a direct impact on their bottom line."
