MILLENNIUM & COPTHORNE HOTELS is to operate two 180-room hotels in central Liverpool. The properties, both of which are slated to open in 2012, are part of the £230 million Central Village development which will eventually include a third hotel and serviced apartments.
The Copthorne Hotel Liverpool and the Millennium Hotel Liverpool will form part of the £160 million first phase of the development. Both will have their own conference and function space, and will target the corporate and meetings market as well as leisure clients.
Richard Peel, director of developers Merepark, said: "There has been much debate regarding the legacy of the city's tenure as Capital of Culture and whether Liverpool can maintain the success of 2008. Millennium & Copthorne's move into Liverpool will help catapult the city into the premier league of tourism and business destinations."
