MIDDLE EASt AIRLINES (MEA) is to join Skyteam. The national carrier of Lebanon will start the process of joining the airline alliance in 2012. MEA will improve Skyteam's global network, said alliance bosses, with customers gaining increased access to the Middle East and western Africa.
The airline flies to 30 international destinations in Europe, the Middle East and West Africa. Over the past seven years, MEA has renewed its fleet of aircraft, with four A330-200s, six A321s and six A320s. The announcement came after the alliance signed up its first airline from the Middle East, Saudi Arabian Airlines, which will join in 2012.
Last year Skyteam announced five other future members: China Eastern, Shanghai Airlines, China Airlines, Garuda Indonesia and Aerolineas Argentinas.
