Sister airlines Air France and KLM reported a drop in traffic of 1.2% in August, compared to August 2009.
The airline also reduced by capacity in August, by 0.9%.
Of the regions, the Americas saw the largest fall in traffic (2.1%), while in Europe it fell by 1.4%.
Traffic on the Asian network remained stable, falling 0.2%.
The Middle East and Africa also saw a fall in traffic, but Air France said the early start of Ramadan had caused the 2.7% drop.
In August 2010 Air France carried 6,502 million passengers, 0.8% below the figure for August 2009 (6,555 million).
