Google has expanded in the travel sector with the launch of mobile app ‘Google Trips’.
Google describes the app as a “personalised tour guide in your pocket”, with categories of information, including day plans, reservations, things to do and food and drink.
One of the key features of Google Trips is it's available offline, but the user must download their itinerary before the trip.
Users must have a Gmail account to use the app as Google scans email accounts to access upcoming trips including flight, car rental and accommodation bookings. This is accessed through the ‘reservations’ tile. There is also a ‘For You’ option which provides personalised recommendations based on your browsing history.
Although the app is aimed at the leisure market it could easily be adapted towards the corporates – The ‘Getting Around’ tile provides detailed information on getting to airports, local transport and taxi options.
Google has trips and suggestions for 200 popular cities. This information is actually based on historic visit data from other travellers, which Google has then assembled into lists that include the most popular sights and attractions.
Google Trips is live on Android and iOS.
