Lufthansa is expanding its stopover programme at its Munich base following a successful launch earlier this year.
The programme, which was unveiled in April for passengers travelling between Singapore and the US via Munich, has now been extended to cover Lufthansa transit passengers travelling from China, India, Japan, South Korea and Thailand.
The initiative is a collaboration between the German airline and Munich Airport, which seeks to encourage travellers to stay in the Bavarian city and wider region for between one to seven days before travelling onwards.
Heiko Reitz, Lufthansa’s executive board member and hub manager for Munich, said: “Many passengers want to do more than just transfer at our hub; they want to discover Munich and Bavaria as an additional travel destination.
“With the Lufthansa Stopover Programme, we offer the opportunity to enrich their air travel with an extra destination, allowing them to experience local culture, cuisine and tourist attractions.”
Lufthansa plans to further expand the Munich stopover programme to include additional markets.
“Through the stopover programme, we are working with Lufthansa to create additional opportunities to attract international travellers to Munich and the region,” added Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport.
