With England through to the next stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, travel and expense technology company Traveldoo has found that business travellers expect very little impact on their plans in the wake of the tournament.
Of 100 business travellers, a resounding 80 per cent had no plans of cancelling or postponing work trips during the World Cup and none of them planned to take time off work to watch the football.
If anything, the respondents – all from the UK and France – found the World Cup to be a business opportunity. More than half (53 per cent) said they would watch games with their colleagues and 50 per cent would use the event as a way to network with clients and prospects.
Furthermore, frequent travellers to Russia reported minimal impact on trips, claiming they were unaware of any changes or amendments to policy during the World Cup – despite the fact that restaurant and hotel prices have skyrocketed by as much as 15 times during the course of the tournament.
However, 70 per cent said they believe the World Cup will have some sort of impact on their company’s business.
It has been widely reported that incidents of employees “pulling sickies” have increased in the wake of warm weather and important tournament matches, so the question now is whether businesses will lose out on key meetings if England progresses past the quarter finals.
