Research on ground transportation is like waiting for a bus — you wait for ages then two come along at the same time.
This month, we have seen two surveys looking at the cost of taxis around the world.
The first, from Taxi2airport.com, looked at the average cost of a 5km taxi journey around the world.
The research found that Switzerland had the highest cost, at £20.25, way ahead of the second most expensive country, Japan, on £13. In the UK, the average cost for the journey was found to be £9. The three cheapest countries are Egypt (£0.75), India (£1.15) and Thailand (£1.26).

The second survey has revealed that taking an Uber is cheaper than getting a taxi in 91% of 66 cities around the world.
Personal finance site finder.com found that Tokyo was the most expensive city for an Uber, at £2.30 per km.
The survey also looked at the difference between the cost of taking an Uber compared with a taxi. London topped the difference table where the difference between the two amounted to some £2.95 per km.
Our second chart this week looks at the average rates of taxis and Ubers in UK cities.

The two pieces of research show how important taxi costs can be in calculating total cost of trip and the potential savings that can be made by using Uber. However, as we know, corporate travel management is never just about cost.
