Passengers travelling though Zurich Airport from 7 January will be able to take rapid Covid tests for countries that require negative PCR test results.
The tests, costing 195 Swiss francs (£165), are self-test kits using saliva rather than a nasal swab and can be performed independently with no medical assistance. Samples are couriered to the Swiss Analysis laboratory four times a day by a dedicated courier service and results are usually returned within five hours.
The testing facility, operated by Ender Diagnostics and Swissport subsidiary Checkport, is located on level 1 of the airport’s check-in 2 and is open from 6am to 8pm.
The tests are intended for people who do not show Covid-19 symptoms but need a test for travel or in order to participate at specific events, Swissport said.
The Zurich facility is Swissport’s second testing facility at a major international airport; it opened another at Heathrow in October.
