Spain’s Council of Ministers has extended its ban on direct flights and passenger ships from the United Kingdom until 6pm on 2 February.
The ban was implemented on 22 December “to limit the spread and contagion of Covid-19…as a result of the new SARS-CoV-2 variant identified in the United Kingdom”.
The council said in a statement, “At the present time, some uncertainties remain about the scope of the new SARS-CoV-2 variant. The epidemiological situation in the United Kingdom has been progressively worsening, currently showing a cumulative incidence at 14 days of 1,031 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
“This situation, together with the detection in Spain of cases linked to the new variant, makes it necessary to maintain these measures until it is known about its impact on the evolution of the pandemic and, especially, in what may affect our country.”
