Airline Norwegian is reopening a base at Helsinki airport for the first time in two years as it looks to expand operations from Finland.
Norwegian, which is now concentrating on being a short-haul carrier, is currently recruiting 150 pilots and cabin crew to be based in Helsinki.
The airline plans to operate 27 routes around Europe from the Finnish capital this summer, including services to London Gatwick, plus flights to Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Italy and France. Norwegian has launched 14 of these short-haul routes in March.
Geir Karlsen, Norwegian’s CEO, said: “I am extremely pleased that we are able to reopen our base in Helsinki. With the 150 new people in Helsinki, we confirm yet again that we are back in Finland.”
Norwegian has already reopened bases in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim, after going through a restructuring process which also saw the airline end its transatlantic services.
