Regional UK carrier Loganair is to introduce a new route linking Aberdeen with the Norwegian capital Oslo.
The Scotland-based airline, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last week, will launch the Aberdeen-Oslo service on 13 June, with up to six weekly flights from Sunday to Friday using 49-seat Embraer 145 aircraft.
Loganair is the largest carrier at Aberdeen, the gateway to the UK’s oil and gas sector, with flights to 14 destinations and more routes are expected to be introduced as demand for travel increases post-pandemic.
The airline is also running a training programme for pilots and cabin crew. Around 20 former Flybe staff have already been recruited at the Aberdeen base.
Loganair chief executive Jonathan Hinkles said: “We’re delighted to be adding Oslo flights at Loganair’s Aberdeen hub, restoring connectivity to the Norwegian capital for both business and leisure travellers.
“It’s an important and long-standing route at Aberdeen, and one which we’re pleased to step into following the cutbacks which other airlines have understandably made during the pandemic.”
Loganair also agreed a new extended codeshare deal with British Airways last week.
Russell Borthwick, chief executive of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, added: “Aberdeen more than any other region of the UK is dependent on air links to enable our internationally focused economy - both protecting existing and adding new connections to key hubs and cities will be central to our recovery.”
