JetBlue is partnering with Chooose to offer passengers the opportunity to contribute towards the cost of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to mitigate the emissions from their flights.
The US airline’s new initiative for travellers complements its existing sustainability programme for corporate partners, which was launched at the start of last year and has so far seen JetBlue issue certificates to corporates for a total of 1.6 million gallons of SAF.
JetBlue passengers will be able to use a separate climate platform, powered by Chooose, to estimate their CO2 emissions from their flights and then contribute to a fund which covers the additional cost of buying SAF compared with conventional jet fuel.
Sara Bogdan, director of sustainability and environmental social governance at JetBlue, said: “The call from our customers for more sustainable air travel has only gotten louder and louder.
“With this new platform, customers are now able to measurably reduce the environmental impact of air travel, as well as join their voices with JetBlue and our growing list of partners as we work and advocate for a more sustainable future of aviation.”
SAF, which is made from household waste such as cooking oils, can cut emissions from flights by up to 80 per cent. But in 2022, the sustainable fuel only accounted for 0.3 per cent of JetBlue’s fuel consumption.
Chooose is already working with a host of other airlines and TMCs to provide tools to allow both individuals and corporate clients to measure, manage and reduce their carbon emissions from air travel.
