Residents of Israel and Greece will be able to travel freely
between the two countries without having to enter quarantine after the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netenyahu
and Greek prime minister Kyriakos
Mitsutakis announced an agreement between the two countries.
Mitsutakis tweeted that the ministers
of tourism of the two countries had “signed a cooperation agreement…[that would] facilitate travellers who have a vaccination certificate.” The Greek leader
has been pushing the EU to introduce a standardised certification scheme across
Europe.
Israel launched a scheme in January in which people who had
received two doses of the Covid vaccine would receive a green booklet confirming
they had been inoculated.
Netenyahu said in a tweet that the “green passport” scheme “would allow Israelis to fly to Greece
without restrictions after opening the skies”.
The UK’s vaccine minister Nadhim
Zahawi said at the weekend that the UK would not introduce vaccine passports,
calling them “discriminatory” and that vaccination does not guarantee that a person cannot transmit Covid.
