Germany has introduced more entry requirements for travellers arriving from regions with particularly high incidence of Covid cases and from regions in which virus variants of concern have been spreading.
As of today, no countries are listed in the former high incidence category but the UK, Ireland and South Africa have been placed in the latter.
The new rules means that those returning from these areas must carry proof of a negative test result or a medical certificate confirming the absence of Covid infection upon entry. This test must have been carried out at the earliest 48 hours before entry or must be carried out upon entry into Germany.
The proof of a negative test result or corresponding medical certificate must be provided on paper or in an electronic document, in each case in German, English or French.
These new rules are in addition to the requirement for foreigners entering or returning from abroad who have stayed in a risk area within the last ten days before entering the country to enter a ten-day quarantine immediately after entry. Arrivals can take a second test no sooner than five days into quarantine to gain early release.
