Germany has announced that the whole country of Brazil is to be considered “an area of variant of concern” from midnight on Tuesday 19 January.
The South American country joins the UK, Ireland and South Africa on its list from which arrivals are subject to additional requirements on entry into Germany.
Those arriving must carry proof of a negative test result or corresponding medical certificate confirming the absence of infection with coronavirus upon entry and to present it to the competent authority upon request. The test must have been carried out at the earliest 48 hours before entry or must be carried out upon entry into Germany.
The proof must be in German, English or French.
As with all other arrivals coming from risk areas, travellers must register before arrival and enter a ten-day quarantine period although this can be ended after five days with a negative test result.
