Delta Air Lines will begin offering free wifi to its SkyMiles loyalty programme members travelling on domestic flights from 1 February, with the perk expanded across its network over the next two years.
The new benefit is part of a larger "vision for personalised travel" for members that will also include access to certain content and exclusive offers.
Dubbed Delta Sync, the programme's perks will roll out through 2023 and 2024. Free wifi access, delivered in partnership with T-Mobile, will be onboard most domestic mainline flights to begin with, according to the carrier.
More than 700 Viasat-equipped aircraft will be enabled with free wifi access by the end of 2023. It also will be available on most international aircraft by mid-2024, and most regional aircraft by the end of 2024, according to Delta.
Planned to launch in the spring is a beta version of the Delta Sync Exclusives hub, which will give SkyMiles members access to exclusive offers and entertainment, such as Paramount Plus content, dining guides from restaurant booking platform Resy on select routes, recommendations from travel guide Atlas Obscura, and content from New York Times Games, including Wordle, Spelling Bee and the crossword puzzle, according to Delta. In addition, "curated" American Express card offers will be available later this spring.
This summer, the carrier also plans to launch Delta Sync On Demand, a new in-flight entertainment system that will recognise SkyMiles members and include food-and-beverage ordering in first class as well as content recommendations, real-time seatback flight notifications and "all-new journey planner functionality," according to Delta.
The full experience will begin rolling out by the end of the year with more features and functionality, including additional personalisation and brand integrations, to follow, according to the carrier.
