Ruby Group is continuing its expansion in Europe after announcing plans for its first property in Greece.
The urban lifestyle brand, which was acquired by hotel giant IHG earlier this year, will open a 114-room property in central Athens.
The hotel, which will be located close to Omonia Square, will feature a bar, breakfast area, fifth floor terrace with outdoor pool and bar, plus a rooftop space on the ninth floor for private events.
Catherine Hilt, Ruby’s associate director development in Southern Europe, said: “Athens represents an exciting next step for Ruby’s development and perfectly embodies the type of vibrant, culturally rich destination where our lean luxury philosophy comes to life.”
The hotel will be based in a historic building that will be converted by Primetown Development. It is scheduled to open in 2027.
Willemijn Geels, IHG’s vice president development, Europe, added: “Ruby Hotels coming to Athens demonstrates the continued appetite from travellers for a premium urban lifestyle brand in one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.
“The signing of Ruby Hotels in Athens is a unique opportunity to grow the brand in new locations and further cements IHG’s portfolio in Greece, where we now have 10 open and pipeline hotels.”
Since its acquisition by IHG in February, Ruby has also announced plans for its first property in Copenhagen and a second hotel in Geneva.
