Euro 2020 may now be over but the preparations for the next football jamboree
continue with the announcement that Qatar will open a further 105 new hotels
and apartment properties ahead of hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2022, boosting
the state’s existing offering of 184 hotels.
Among the properties due to open before the tournament begins are the Pullman Doha West
Bay, the Steigenberger Hotel Doha and the JW Marriott West Bay. The five-star 341-room Banyan Tree (pictured) opened its doors recently.
Pullman Doha West Bay, which has 375 rooms and suites and 93 apartments,
is close to Doha Exhibition and Convention Center and offers more than 3,500 square metres of meetings
space.
The Steigenberger Hotel Doha will open close to Doha’s international airport
and offer 204 rooms and suites as well as a 400-square-metre ballroom and six
conference rooms.
The 53-storey JW Marriott West Bay offers 297 rooms and a 30th
floor swimming pool.
Qatar Airways group chief executive and chairman of Qatar Tourism, Akbar
Al Baker, said: "These upcoming properties are part of our strategy to
diversify our offering and broaden our appeal to visitors.”
